Cultural Interchange between the Fishing Communities of Himi, Japan and Tárcoles, Costa Rica. Sponsored by the local government of Himi and the Himi Fishermen Cooperative. Estimated budget: US$50,000

This project aims to establish a work platform for Japanese youngsters from the community of Himi, while aiming to introduce new fishing gear in the communities around the Golfo de Nicoya. Tárcoles is the community where the first pilot experience is being developed, and once the results of this first experimental phase are assessed, at the end of 2002, other project phases will unfold, as called for by the results themselves.
